Liverpool 2 - 1 Blackburn Rovers Highlights

Liverpool 2 - 1 Blackburn Rovers Highlights

Liverpool broke the deadlock with Blackburn after 19 minutes, Gerrard spread the play to Yossi Benayoun out wide left and, after the Israeli had maneuvered into the box, Steven Gerrard was back on the scene to slip in the opener. A cheeky handball from Jamie Carragher while grounded in the Reds’ box was seen by the officials, allowing Keith Andrews to bring Rovers level from the spot. But then Anfield saw the sight they’ve been missing for much of the season as Fernando Torres was able to restored Liverpool’s lead from a neat Maxi pass.

Liverpool 1 - 0 Everton Highlights epl

Liverpool 1 - 0 Everton Highlights epl

The first half of the Merseyside derby was more about the bad tackles and the furious tempo rather than actual goal mouth chances, with the main talking point concerning the sending off of Kyrgiakos in a filthy challenge with Fellaini that should have seen the Belgian dismissed too. Gerrard, after falling all to easily, went close with a free-kick while Cahill sent a point-blank header over the bar at the other end.

Nine minutes after the break the 10-men of Liverpool struck as Dirk Kuyt was left unchallenged in the six yard box to head in a corner. Everton were impotent after falling behind and a disappointing day for the Toffees ended when Pineaar collected his second yellow at the death.

Aston Villa 0 - 1 Liverpool Highlights

Aston Villa 0 - 1 Liverpool Highlights

In blizzard conditions at a freezing Villa Park, the weather clearly affected both sides in an underwhelming goalless first half although the Villains should have scored when Stuart Downing saw Pepe Reina stop a point-blank volley from four yards out.

For the majority of the second half Liverpool were hanging on by their fingernails as Villa squandered chance after chance to score, and they suffered the killer sucker-punch in the 92nd minute as Agbonlahor saw a tackle send the ball straight into Fernando Torres’ path, and the Spaniard gobbled up his chance and slipped a low shot past Friedel into the far corner.

Portsmouth 2 - 0 Liverpool Highlights

Portsmouth 2 - 0 Liverpool Highlights

It was a seventh league defeat of the season for the Merseysiders who had Javier Mascherano sent off for a tackle on Tal Ben Haim just before half-time.

Eyebrows were raised when Benitez picked Dossena ahead of Benayoun and Babel of Liverpool’s left, and after thirty scrappy minutes where the Reds failed to control the game Nadir Belhadj thrashed home a stunning volley into Reina’s near post as Pompey moved ahead. Then came the big talking point as Javier Mascherano clattered into Ben Haim under the nose of ref Mason who whipped out a controversial red card to give the Argentine Christmas off. Liverpool threatened to fall apart after the break, Fernando Torres lucky to escape an early bath after elbowing Ben Haim in a challenge, and ten minutes from time Pompey wrapped up the points when Yebda was allowed to whip in a cross from the right and Frederic Piquionne beat Carragher to the ball before firing a volley across Riena in the far post.

Liverpool 2 - 1 Wigan Athletic Highlights

David N'Gog and Fernando Torres were the men on target for the Reds, with Charles N'Zogbia netting for Wigan.

David Ngog jumped high to glance home an Aurelio cross from the right as Liverpool took an 8th minute lead over Wigan. Dirk Kuyt was denied handing Liverpool a second when Kirkland pulled off a point-blank save. Fernando Torres made sure of the points for Liverpool with a second 11 minutes from time as El Nino ran onto a ball over the top and beat Kirkland after seeing his initial shot blocked by Bramble. A late goal from Charles N’Zogbia proved mere consolation for the Latics.

Fran Merida (”the new Cesc Fabregas”) opened the scoring with a blistering strike on 19 minutes, it was the Spaniards first ever goal for the Arsenal first team. It took Liverpool only seven minutes to reply with an even better long range effort, Emiliano Insua unleashing a left-footed rocket that gave Fabianski no chance. Minutes after the break Nicklas Bendtner put the Gunners into the lead again, finishing well after a long spell of passing.

Aurelio then forced another top save from Var der Sar with a bullet header that the Dutchman saved. In the 64th minute the Kop erupted, Benayoun fed Fernando Torres the ball into the United box, the Spaniard held off Ferdinand’s challenge before rifling the opener high into the net. Liverpool vs Manchester United Match Previews

Liverpool vs Manchester United Match Previews

With four successive defeats in all competitions, Liverpool are enduring their worst run for 22 years. A fifth reverse in a row would be their worst sequence since 1953.

United have the chance to open a 10-point gap on the side who pushed them closest in last season's title race.

Liverpool beat Manchester United home and away in the league last season and will be looking for a similarly inspired performance. A Wes Brown own-goal and a Ryan Babel strike handed Liverpool the Anfield victory after Carlos Tevez had given United an early lead.

United will be in confident mood after they maintained their 100 per cent record in Europe this season with a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow.

Liverpool 6-1 Hull City

Liverpool 6-1 Hull City

Hull looked devoid of confidence conceding early at Anfield, Riera slipping a ball into Fernando Torres who turned two Hull defenders before finding the far corner. But the Tigers fought back to level quickly, Srktel and Carragher once again failed to deal with a ball in the box and Geovanni volleyed in the equaliser. Just before the half hour a brilliant solo goal from El Nino, Torres collecting a Benayoun ball in the box and waltzing past a couple of weak challenges before applying the clinical finish. Two minutes in the second half Torres raced towards the Kop to calmly slot in his hat-trick goal. Steven Gerrard put the nail in Hull coffin seeing his over-hit cross sail in off the underside of the bar. A late brace from sub Ryan Babel (first and second) sealed the comfortable Liverpool rout.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could have all three of his main injury worries available for Sunday's home game with Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Full-back Alvaro Arbeloa, who pulled out of last weekend's win at Manchester United with a hamstring problem, is back in training and is expected to return to the side.

Xabi Alonso (ankle) and Yossi Benayoun (hamstring), who both missed the Old Trafford triumph, are back in light training and have a good chance of being involved.

Benitez insists Liverpool must put the remarkable victory last week over Manchester United behind them and concentrate on not wasting the momentum.

The Liverpool chief maintains only a victory over a flagging Villa side will keep the feel-good factor going.

Liverpool produced a magnificent performance to reach the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate defeat of Real Madrid.

In a remarkable first half, Real Madrid were torn to shreds by a breathtaking attacking display led by Fernando Torres, their arch-enemy from his Atletico Madrid days.

Torres scored early on, before Steven Gerrard fired home from the spot.

And had it not been for an outstanding display from Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, Liverpool would have had a hatful in that first 45 minutes alone.

Gerrard scored a spectacular third seconds after the break to deflate Madrid further and substitute Andrea Dossena added a fourth with three minutes to go.

Gerrard struck twice on his 100th European appearance for Liverpool to secure a quite breathtaking victory, Real were humbled for the second time in a fortnight by their old boy Rafael Benitez.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool Champions League

Real Madrid are in perfect shape to deal a blow to compatriot Rafael Benitez's Liverpool side in the Champions League on Wednesday, coach Juande Ramos said.

Ramos was halfway through his disappointing spell at Tottenham Hotspur the last time he took on the Liverpool boss on the final day of the 2007-08 Premier League season when Spurs lost 2-0 at White Hart Lane.

Now, Benitez brings his side to the Bernabeu for the last-16, first leg to face a Real side on a run of nine Primera Liga wins in a row while Liverpool's domestic title challenge faded further on Sunday with another disappointing draw.
