An own goal by Gael Givet handed the Blues the lead on 20 minutes before a blistering start to the second half made the match safe.

Frank Lampard ended his goal drought on 48 minutes and then added his second from the penalty spot on 59 minutes with Michael Essien scoring a spectacular long-range strike seven minutes earlier.

After 64 minutes Didier Drogba headed the fifth for Chelsea who gave a first start of the season to Joe Cole on his return from injury. It was Chelsea's biggest ever win against Blackburn.
